King James Veritas at Polemics Berkeley Institute (KJVPBI)

The King James Veritas at Polemics Berkeley Institute (KJVPBI) was established near the University of California at Berkeley to promote and defend the historical-literal doctrines of scripture as preserved in the King James Bible. The acronym KJVPBI was created in honor of the King James Only educational tradition of Pensacola Bible Institute. The term “veritas”is Latin for “truth,” reflecting our commitment to the clarity and authority of biblical truth, while polemics defines our academic position of critical engagement with competing truth claims, particularly those dominant within contemporary higher education.

Our approach is unapologetically confrontational, but not irrational or inflammatory. It is grounded in the classical academic tradition of disputation where challenging prevailing views is not only permitted but essential to intellectual integrity. While modern academia often champions “critical thinking,” it too frequently insulates its own assumptions from scrutiny. KJVPBI aims to break that insulation by confronting the dominant paradigms that govern biblical studies, theology, and philosophy, particularly those that marginalize the authority of Scripture or undermine the textual reliability of the King James Bible. Although we also use apologetics (the reasoned defense of the faith) in Christian scholarship, our institute prioritizes polemics. Christians should not merely defend biblical truth, but directly expose and critique faulty assumptions, hermeneutics, and philosophies that dominate contemporary academia. We reject the trend toward inaccessible, self-referential academic discourse that obscures meaning and excludes those outside elite academic circles. Much of modern scholarship has become preoccupied with theoretical abstraction, employing language so esoteric that it evades public accountability and practical relevance. By contrast, KJVPBI insists that if truth is to be tested, lived, and proclaimed, it must be expressed clearly, defended boldly, and applied directly. This is not an anti-intellectual statement since higher education welcomes reform and progress of intellectual culture that is rooted in transparency, accessibility, and real-world applicability.

KJVPBI does not exist to merely preserve tradition, but to actively equip all students, regardless of background, with the tools to examine, test, and proclaim the truth. We believe that theology belongs not only in ivory towers, but in churches, homes, schools, and public life. Thus, our institute speaks in both scholarly and plain language, ensuring that no one is excluded from serious engagement with Scripture due to lack of credentials or cultural capital. In this, KJVPBI actually restores the older vision of scholarship: one in which the pursuit of truth transcends academic fashion, resists ideological gatekeeping, and speaks with conviction into the world as it is.
